Criminal Justice

Criminal Justice
The criminal justice system’s goals include the rehabilitation of offenders, preventing other crimes, and moral support for victims. However, in the U.S., the criminal justice system disproportionately impacts black and brown individuals, including black and brown autistic people. That is why preventing, reducing, and improving the criminal justice system is a new and vital priority for research and the autism community. Policy and practice changes that are effective and workable can address and improve excessive interactions between autistic individuals and the justice system. These changes must be driven by the needs and preferences of autistic individuals, be timely, and be evidence-based to achieve equitable justice and safer outcomes for autistic individuals.
